The Vedic culture explains that each individual is an atma on a very long journey of many, many lifetimes through the realm of matter. Once an atma reaches human consciousness, the choices they make come back in a cycle of time and cause and effect, affecting their subsequent lifetimes. This is known as karma, and it is delivered by the grahas or planets who act as a universal parcel system, delivering the reactions to our previous actions.

Some karmas are prarabdha – ripe fruit – and cannot be avoided. Other karmas are seedling karmas and are able to be overcome by activities we practice as a yogi and by a certain consciousness and awareness that we keep our focus steady upon.
