The Snake is Time, in a World that Turns.

The Snake is Time, in a World that Turns.
The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, in its second verse, explains that the effect of living in the realm of matter is literally that we get our "knickers in a twist" what to speak of our DNA (a double helix) and of course all of organic life is twisted via the Fibonacci sequence, into a distorted but necessary "pretzel" form of our self, based on combined opposites.
.
Which is to say that our atma or true self, the consciousness animating the matter that functions as our body and mind, is only twisted by association with orbits, wobbles, eclipses, gyrations, seasons, days and nights, etc. This is the cosmic "Ground-hog Day" of our true self our soul or atma.
.
Thus, the second verse of the sutras says:"Yogas chitt vritti nirodha", or "Yoga is freeing the atma from the effect of all the spinning, twisting vortexes of matter." Yes, we have been "screwed"! and "torqued" and "made dizzy" by the whole spinning cosmos.
.
The third verse of the Sutras says " Tada drastu svarupe avasthanam" or "Then, the yogi sees the "rupa" or the atma, the true form of their immortal self, lying at the core of all those twisting coils of matter.” That "Tada!" is spoken dramatically, like the MC when the star of the show steps onto the stage.
.
And lastly, verse four of the Yoga Sutras says: “Vritti sarupyam iti Ratri.” Or “ If the vision of the atma or true self is not achieved through Yoga, then all that is seen day after day and night after night, is the twisting and turning of matter.”
.
Here is the same idea presented poetically and PS, let’s not "twist again like we did last summer.” Let's use Yoga to untwist again and again forever!

As the World Twists and Turns
.
The coiled serpent is ready to strike,
Encircling the treasure of things that you like,
.
Staring out from unblinking eyes,
Shape-shifter appearing in endless disguise.
.
Malice, envy and greed make them green,
Forgetful of love and beauty they’ve seen,
.
“Yogas chitt vritti nirodha”,
This is the bump unseen on the road, a –
.
A torque of the plot you couldn’t see turning,
The beginning of which was an unconscious yearning.
.
But now the coils are starting to twist,
The lie that you told, the part that you missed.
.
Someone has carefully crafted this trap,
The circuit you’ll run, lap after lap,
.
The lies that are labelled “A curriculum,”
Turn you in circles until you are dumb.
.
Introverted, extroverted,
Both are twisted and perverted.
.
In the vortex of this snake,
Love is converted into heartbreak,
.
Writhing at night with discontent,
The tortuous twisting of what you meant.
.
Undying commitment with vows and in verse,
Extorted, tormented and put in reverse,
.
Religions with swords demanding conversion,
Only create an ignorant version.
.
Planets orbiting, trapped in their transits,
Spin our heads and distort our wits.
.
Again, and again this serpent bites,
“Itaratra,” days and nights,
.
The venom circulates deep and burns;
The snake is time, in a world that turns.
